Risk It for the Biscuit

What does it mean to take a risk? Does it mean running that yellow light just before it turns red? Is it asking out the crush you've admired for over a year? Is it finally making that career change from the job you're comfortable in? Whatever the risk is, why do we take it as opposed to avoiding it? Some people might grow tired of their current situation. Others might thrive on a YOLO (You Only Live Once) lifestyle. As for me, I like to sum up my approach to risk-taking with a quote I once heard: “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ― Anais Nin

What makes this my favorite quote when it comes to taking risks is that sometimes, as humans, we feel we'll be better off if we stay to ourselves, don’t take risks, and always choose the safe option. However, what if that “safe option” prevents you from living your best life, causes you to miss out on opportunities for growth, and makes you second-guess your life choices?

Just like the flower that remains tight in a bud, it is meant to blossom one day and show its beauty. So many of us have so much beauty and value inside that we keep to ourselves due to the fear of criticism. In fact, I would argue we are our own biggest critics. However, nobody will know our value unless we bring it out and share it with the world!

With that being said, 2024 is the year I plan to do just that. With over 12 years of experience as a teacher, sales rep, outreach representative, and career coach, I am now branching off to share my knowledge and value with the world. This has always been a dream, and thankfully, I am now in a position to put my money where my mouth is and bet on myself by taking the leap into a career as a coach.

Now, if you ask me, was it easy to take this leap? My answer is a simple no. As soon as I launched my business, I found myself having to move out of my apartment, assist in paying for my cousin's funeral expenses, and deal with my current job going out of business, among other life happenings. However, by choosing to move forward, I have an awesome team helping me develop my business, friends reaching out to support the cause, and this new venture has helped me grow by surrounding myself with only positive influences.

My main mission is to help grow people’s confidence to bet on themselves by providing services that enrich mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Upcoming events I will be working on include workshops that promote self-growth and building connections, continuing to blog, and sharing resources that I have benefited from.

For the rest of the year, I challenge you to believe and bet on yourself by going for what you really want in life. If you need support, you have me and this community to lean on! 2024’s mantra is “Go For It!”
